Unintentional second-degree homicide is punishable by as much as 40 years in jail in Minnesota, with as much as 25 years for third-degree homicide, however sentencing tips counsel that Chauvin would face 12 1/2 years in jail if convicted on both cost. Manslaughter has a most 10-year sentence.
